Tribes Ascend Closed Beta

The TRIBES series of games have been played by over 1 million people. Tribes fans appreciate fast-paced, athletic FPS combat including JETPACKS, skiing, vehicles, and load-out changes within a match. Tribes: Ascend preserves the speed and teamwork of the franchise, and adds new weapons, class-based combat, and character progression.

Tribes Ascend is a multiplayer FPS for those seeking fast-paced, jetpack enabled combat – combined with teamwork and strategy. Tribes: Ascend will be a Free-to-Play digitally distributed title for the PC

Tribes  Ascend will officially launch in 2012.  Prior to the official launch, there will be an Open Beta period (in which there will be no invitation required to play the game).

In general, Hi-Rez Studios believes in an iterative development and release process in which we allow our users to play our games early, provide feedback and help us make a better game.

By running an extended beta period using early versions of the game with a limited number of features and content, we hope to provide the best game we can at launch.

How do I get an invitation to the Tribes: Ascend Closed Beta?

The Tribes: Ascend Closed Beta is invitation only (you must have an activation key to play).  We are starting with a modest-size population of testers, and increase the number of testers as time goes on.

There are three primary ways for people to receive an invitation:

  1. You can register at: http://www.tribesascend.com to apply for a spot.  Not everyone who registers will be given an invitation, but many will.
  2. To guarantee a slot in the beta, you can pre-purchase the Tribes: Ascend VIP Starter package. This package includes automatic admission into the Beta program — as well as VIP status in the game, a 30-day Booster and 800 Tribes Gold (at a 33% discount from the standard price).
  3. Over time, we will run a variety of contests and promotions through various media outlets promoting the game and providing beta keys. Follow @tribesascend and @hirezstudios on Twitter, and Like Tribes: Ascend on Facebook to keep abreast of current contests.

What features are included in the Closed Beta?

Many features that are intended for the launched game will not be part of the initial Closed Beta. Other features will only be partially implemented, and may be buggy and/or lack the intended ease-of-use.

A major purpose of the closed beta is to gather player stats and metrics related to combat gameplay balance and character progression.  Based on this, players should expect that some weapons, classes, gamerules and features will undergo significant changes during the Closed Beta.

The  following features, although not necessarily at their intended level of final polish, are included:

  • A subset of the classes intended for the final game, with additional classes being added over the course of the beta. Note that some weapon models, Special FX and other attributes of the art around the weapons may be temporary.
  • A subset of the maps intended for the final game, with additional maps being added over the course of the beta.
  • The initial Closed Beta will include the CTF and Rabbit gamemodes.
  • Initial system for player advancement
  • “Quick Matches” in which players simply hit “Play Now” and are slotted into a new or already-running match based on basic match-making rules.
  • A basic Friends List, that allows you to see whether or not your friends are online and to join the match they are currently playing in (if there is room in the match).

Here are some features that will NOT be included in the initial Closed Beta (and are planned to be added into the game in phases over the coming weeks and months leading to launch):

  • Private Servers
  • Clan Support
  • Ranking/Ladder System
  • Ability to view and browse your match history and detailed player stats/achievements.
  • Advanced Social Features — enhancements are planned to chat, the party system and many other aspect to make it easier for you and your friends to communicate and play with and against one another.
  • Ability to customize the look of your players with Skins.
  • In addition, over the course of the beta, we will add additional maps, classes, and other features.

What is Tribes Gold?

Tribes Gold is the in-game currency that you can purchase from outside the game.

What does the Tribes Booster do?

Boosters will double the rate that you gain tokens and experience in Tribes.

I purchased the Tribes: Ascend VIP Starter Pack. When will my Booster become active?
